We all know that eating more lean meats and vegetables and cutting back on sugar is beneficial for our overall health. However, putting this knowledge into practice isn't always easy. In a world built around convenience it can be tough to build strategies to keep you from tripping up. There are 3 things that we have found can help you make healthier choices simpler in your daily life:
Environment Matters: Set yourself up for success by making healthy options readily available. Keep pre-cut veggies and other whole foods easily accessible in your kitchen. When nutritious choices are within arm's reach, you're more likely to reach for them when hunger strikes. Along side of that, keep those foods without brakes (the ones where if you have 1, you have 10) out of sight. Hide them in the pantry or even keep them out of the house.
Supportive Social Circle: Surround yourself with individuals who prioritize healthy habits. Research shows that the behaviors of those around us influence our own choices more than we realize. By surrounding yourself with friends, family, or colleagues who embrace healthy living, you'll find it easier to stay on track and resist temptation.
Plan for Success: Take charge of your schedule and make self-care a priority. Focus on incorporating the core four habits that support overall well-being and help you pass the T.E.S.T. that life will throw at you on the daily:
- Train: Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day. Whether it's a gym workout (like a CrossFit class...we know of a GREAT place!), a brisk walk, yoga session, a bike ride...the key is to find activities you enjoy and make them a regular part of your routine.
- Eat: Opt for quality foods in appropriate portions that nourish your body and support lean muscle mass (which is what keeps us feeling young and energetic).
- Sleep: Prioritize adequate sleep by aiming for 7-8 hours of quality rest each night. Establish a relaxing bedtime routine and create a sleep-friendly environment to promote quality sleep to maximize rest and recovery.
- Think: Stress Management and mindset are MASSIVE influencers on the way we interact with the world around us. Incorporate stress-reducing practices into your daily life, such as meditation, deep breathing exercises, or journaling. Cultivate a positive mindset and practice gratitude to help manage stress levels and maintain mental well-being.
Plug these strategies one at a time. As you master one, add another. This way, you can build momentum and empower yourself to make healthier choices and prioritize your well-being. Remember, small changes add up over time. Perfection isn't the goal, It's consistency that's key to long-term success. With a supportive environment, self-care practices, and a focus on nutritious choices, you can change your health and finally feel energized and excited to tackle each day!
