About Coach

I grew up right here in Thornton, a 5th generation Coloradoan. I've been an athlete almost my whole life competing in wrestling, judo, and football, and played many others growing up. I've competed in CrossFit, MMA, and the Spartan Race as an adult. Competing gives us something to train for, but it's the process of training that changes us. Life's journey has taught me that the magic in life happens when we learn to not just embrace the process but enjoy it. And if you can find a few other people to do it with you, it makes life even sweeter.

Turning Point

Although I spent most of my life as an athlete, there was a chunk of my life that I lost touch with athletics. I went to college to wrestle and got injured. The end of competing combined with everything else going on in life at the time sent me into a deep depression. I gained 75 lbs in 7 months between 2000 and 2001. It stayed until 2007 when I decided if I was going to be a trainer and coach I needed to look the part. Over the next 3 years, in spite of everything I knew from my degree, I would ride the weight loss rollercoaster losing and gaining the same 20-30 lbs but never really being able to sustain a course to long-term health and fitness. Then, I found CrossFit. It had a unique way of showing me I could do hard things. And as an exercise scientist, I studied the method and saw why it was effective. in 2011 I received my CrossFit Level 1 certificate and have been a preacher of the CrossFit method ever since. At 40+ (41 as I'm writing this) I am fitter and stronger than I have ever been. Those 75 lbs are a distant memory and I have built the mental and spiritual strength to fight back depression when it does rear its ugly head.

Motivation & Passion

I believe that the excellent life we all dream of having can be had if we're willing to make the hard choices and do the hard work necessary to build it. My favorite people to coach are those that don't feel like they belong in a gym and struggle to see how building that life is possible, but know they need to do something and are willing to try something new. Because as I teach you how to embrace the right hard things, you start to believe in yourself. And as you start to believe in yourself, now your light shines on those around you and inspires them to do the same. The cool part is, the simplest part of our lives to change is our health. It's not easy, but it is simple. A shift in how you train, eat, sleep, and think can be done in small steps that cause amazing change. Come and see! I'd love to show you how!
